A Family Meeting Can Prove Invaluable
Over the years, many clients have asked us if they could bring family members in to meet us and get an explanation of the basic ins and outs of their Estate Planning. Other clients choose to bring their back up decision-makers, for financial decisions and/or health care decision-makers, to review meetings.
This is a very basic explanation of the type of planning you have done, where to find documents and help, and what are the first steps to take to manage your affairs.
We have found these meetings enjoyable and very helpful for all concerned when a client later dies or becomes disabled.
This week we had two such meetings so that you can invite your family to receive an overview of the process, get a feel for what working with us would be like. If your back up people attend the webinar, they will leave better prepared to respond well whenever the time comes.
Given the success we have seen families realize from knowing more, we want you to have the same opportunity. We are holding two webinars called
“What to Tell your Executor and/or Successor Trustee”
The webinar will be held on Tuesday, February 11 at 12:00 Noon and again on Wednesday, February 12 at 7:00 pm.
If you want to attend, go to our website and register for either program. Reservations are required and space is limited for each program.
We anticipate the webinars will last approximately 25 t0 30 minutes each.
If neither time works for you, check the events section of our website, as we will be offering the program again in weeks to follow.
We hope that if you and your selected family members attend the program, it will introduce us to the family members, give them a basic overview of your planning, and explain some basic things they should know to serve well.
One advantage of the online format is that out of state family members can easily participate.
We will also be having other programs in the weeks and months to follow on various topics, including:
- The New Secure Act, which was just enacted in December and is in effect as of January 1, which greatly changes the treatment of Inherited IRAs, especially those payable to trusts
- Trust Administration Basics
- Living Trusts vs Wills, Advantages and Disadvantages.
Please read future newsletters for the times and topics.
We hope you can join us for a webinar and that you use it to prepare your loved ones for the inevitable.
We think it will be time well spent.
